Travelers crossing land and sea borders between the U.S. and
Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda now have the option
to use a new official document – a wallet-sized Passport Card that
contains an identity chip that can be read from 30 feet away and is
cheaper, at $45, than the traditional passport. It is not valid for
international air travel. CLIA recommends, however, that consumers check
with individual cruise lines to ensure that the card will be valid on any particular itinerary.
